Syntax-Brillian Selling Microdisplay Unit

Maker of Olevia high-definition televisions to license technology for liquid-crystal-on-silicon microdisplay business to Compound Photonics for a partial stake in the company.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) â€” Syntax-Brillian Corp., which makes Olevia high-definition televisions, said Monday it agreed to sell its liquid-crystal-on-silicon (LCoS) microdisplay business for an undisclosed sum.

Syntax-Brillian said it will retain all patents associated with the business, but will license the technology to U.K.-based Compound Photonics Ltd. in exchange for a partial stake in the company.

Compound Photonics is then expected to buy the LCoS manufacturing equipment and inventory and takeover the lease on the LCoS operations division of Syntax-Brillian's Tempe, Ariz. plant.

The sale is expected to close in November.
