Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Newnan, Ga.) has announced its “Wireless Anywhere” business concept based around the plant-wide us of ISA100.11a*1 compliant wireless communication technologies. The company says the ISA100.11a standard ensures high reliability, application flexibility and network expandability, in addition to increased compatibility, with a variety of wired communication protocols. Building on top of that, the Wireless Anywhere concept involves using ISA100.11a compatible field wireless systems throughout manufacturing plants. The company says these systems can be large in scale, supporting up to 500 wireless devices. The data update time is five seconds with 500 concurrent devices, and one second with 200 concurrent devices.

The company will promote the use of these ISA100.11a-compliant devices in three ways:

  1. Modularized wireless components will incorporate make it easier for vendors to implement the ISA100.11a technology in new sensor products, with the goal of releasing new devices by the end of 2013.
  2. Promotion of the ISA100.11a standard through membership in various standards institutes, and supplying modularized components to other vendors.
  3. Facilitiating host connectivity for both wired and wireless field networks to encourage the use of these systems in both monitoring and control applications.
