GCE Industrial, an ESAB brand (North Bethesda, MD), has launched VarioVIPR PROTECT, a two-stage valve integrated pressure regulator (VIPR) for argon-based welding shielding gases with a level of robustness, safety and performance that can improve the way welders work.
The VarioVIPR PROTECT features a patent-pending “radio dial” continuously variable flow control adjustment mechanism, eliminating the traditional flow control knob and delivery pressure gauge. GCE factory-calibrates each unit to allow precise adjustment at flow rates up to 60 scf/h. Haptic “micro-click” tactile feedback gives welders the ability to set exact shielding gas flow requirements with an accuracy of ± 10% (compared to ± 20% for traditional regulators).
Other advantages compared to traditional regulators include a lever-operated on/off valve that provides a clear visual indication of whether the cylinder is open or closed. During opening, a patent-pending reverse opening lever design eliminates the pressure shocks and gas waste often associated with rapid-opening valves.
