SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Two men connected to a Northern California slaughterhouse have been sentenced for their part in a nationwide meat recall two years ago.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that on Wednesday 79-year-old Robert Singleton, a partner in the business at Rancho Feeding Corp., and longtime slaughterhouse yardman Eugene Corda both received leniency as part of a deal with federal prosecutors to provide information about co-owner Jesse "Babe" Amaral Jr.
The two men pleaded guilty in what prosecutors say was a scheme to process cattle that U.S. Department of Food and Agriculture veterinarians rejected for having cancerous eyes.
Singleton was sentenced to probation and three months of home confinement. Corda was sentenced to six months of home confinement and probation.
Amaral was sentenced last month to a year in prison.
