CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — A contractor for Volkswagen is actively seeking job applicants for VW's Chattanooga plant as the German automaker prepares to start production on a new SUV.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that contract staffing company Aerotek, which is overseeing the hiring of hundreds of new production employees for the plant, held a job fair Tuesday.

Chamber of Commerce Director of Workforce Development and Education Mattie Moran says six more VW job fairs are planned through Aug. 30.

Aerotek representative A.J. Harris says the company hopes to hire 900 to 1,200 more employees for VW, though he didn't know when they would be hired.

VW is spending $900 million, including $600 million in Tennessee, to expand its Chattanooga factory and start SUV production by the end of the year.
