The Pressure Of Ultrasonic Welding

Sensor Products (Madison, NJ) is now offering Pressurex pressure-indicating sensor film, which can be used during ultrasonic welding to ensure that the horn and anvil are precisely aligned during setup. Pressurex reveals the distribution and magnitude of pressure between any two contacting surfaces, and when placed between the horn and anvil or the ultrasonic bonder, the film instantaneously and permanently changes color proportional to the pressure applied.

The precise magnitude (PSI or kg/cm2) is then determined by comparing the color variation to a color correlation chart. In addition, Pressurex is extremely thin (4 to 8 mils) and flexible, which enables it to conform to curved surfaces.
