Editor's Note: A number of readers have contacted IMPO to say that if one turns off the engine while it is in operation, the vehicle will lose its power steering, which could lead to an accident itself. It seems the consensus is that going into neutral, along with steady, even braking, is the safest method to stop a car with a stuck accelerator.
