SureStop Drum Brake

The SureStop is ideal for situations where critical lifts are necessary, including people lifts, molten metal lifts or in situations where great damage might result should failure result.

With the new EMH (Valley City, OH) SureStop Drum Brake, EMH Wire Rope Hoist users have an optional failsafe safety device that stops loads when monitored parameters exceed safe operating condition limits. Over-speed, load-slip at standstill, and sheared shaft conditions are all continuously monitored. The SureStop Drum Brake can also be configured as a second mechanical brake.

The EMH SureStop Drum Brake is an emergency device that prevents uncontrolled lowering of the load in the event of a failure, but it is not intended as a service brake. It offers users an additional failsafe device should there be failure with the motor service brake, should one or more of the drive transmission components fail, or should a drum brake component fail. The SureStop is especially ideal for situations where critical lifts are necessary, including people lifts, molten metal lifts or in situations where great damage might result should failure result.

The SureStop Drum Brake is designed for optimal performance in temperatures ranging from +2°C +80°C, but can handle a wide range of harsh and severe temperature extremes, just as long as the mechanism is secured within an enclosure.

The SureStop Drum Brake combines an encoder, a ratchet/pawl mechanism and an electrical over-speed system control. When the Drum Brake is activated, it mechanically locks any lowering motion and electrically prevents hoisting, which means that the hoist is totally disabled.
