BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Vulcan Materials Co. (VMC) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $112.6 million.
On a per-share basis, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had profit of 83 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains and to account for discontinued operations, came to 69 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 83 cents per share.
The construction materials company posted revenue of $873 million in the period, also falling short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $914.6 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $419.5 million, or $3.09 per share. Revenue was reported as $3.59 billion.
Vulcan shares have increased slightly more than 2 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed slightly more than 2 percent. The stock has risen 37 percent in the last 12 months.
