DETROIT (AP) — The press preview days for the North American International Auto Show officially get started with the selection of the North American Car of the Year and Truck/Utility of the Year.

The announcements are expected Monday morning at Cobo Center in Detroit.

This year's car finalists are the Honda Civic, Chevrolet Malibu and Mazda MX-5 Miata. Truck/utility finalists are the Nissan Titan XD, Honda Pilot and Volvo XC90.

Last year's winners were the Volkswagen Golf and Ford F-150 truck.

About 55 automotive journalists from the U.S. and Canada vote on winners from the list of finalists.

A vehicle must be all new or substantially changed for eligibility.

This is the 23rd year for the awards. Organizers accept no advertising, though carmakers try to capitalize on the marketing value of the honors.
