MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — Dow Chemical Co. says it's donating up to $250,000 to Habitat for Humanity International to help refugee relief efforts in Europe.

The Midland, Michigan-based company announced Monday it will directly donate $200,000 to the nonprofit housing organization and has launched a global employee matching grant program worth up to $50,000 throughout the month.

Dow officials say there is a great need for basic necessities, such as food, shelter and medical care, for those escaping war and violence in Syria and elsewhere. The donations support work in several countries, including Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary.

Dow says it's been working with Habitat for Humanity since 1983.
