Crews at a Detroit wastewater treatment plant have discovered organs, or pieces of tissue, in late December.
According to reports, the most recent organ, found on Dec. 23, was determined to be a deer heart. Three other organs found Dec. 15, Dec. 16 and Dec. 20 are still being tested the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
Police describe the organs found at the Great Lakes Water Authority Water Recovery Facility as “possible human organs”.
Fox2 Detroit reports that a total of four kidneys and one heart has been found at the facility.
The facility, which opened in 1940, treats sewage and water runoff before being returned to the Detroit River. A Water Authority spokeswoman said it is unclear how the objects entered the facility however there is no public health threat to the wastewater system.
