Australian brewer Carlton & United is recalling bottles of its Carlton Dry beer amid concerns about broken glass.

The company, which is owned by SABMiller, said that it received about a dozen complaints about chipped glass at the top of bottles.

The recall affects 355mL bottles with expiration dates of July 19-20, 2016, which is only a tiny fraction of the company's annual output.

Carlton officials are still investigating the cause, but they suspect the problem occurred during the bottling process at its facility in Queensland.

"This sort of thing is rare but we take the quality of our beers seriously," Carlton & United said.

SABMiller and Anheuser-Busch InBev are currently in talks to merge into a global brewing behemoth.
