A prosecutor says the owner of a New Hampshire gunpowder plant where an explosion in May 2010 killed two workers was motivated by profit and greed.
The lawyer for 65-year-old Craig Sanborn of Maidstone, Vt., countered in the opening statement in Sanborn's trial Monday that the explosion could have been caused by employee error and that experts could not determine its cause.
Sanborn is charged with manslaughter and reckless homicide in the explosion that killed 56-year-old Donald Kendall of Colebrook and 49-year-old Jesse Kennett of Stratford.
He pleaded not guilty and his lawyer says he can't be held accountable because he was at a gun show in North Carolina at the time of the explosion at the Black Mag plant.
The jury trial is expected to last several weeks.
