Toyota Adds 331,000 Cars To Takata Airbag Recalls

Toyota previously recalled the same vehicles from earlier model years.

Toyota is adding 331,000 cars worldwide to an existing recall of passenger airbags made by Japanese supplier Takata Corp.

The new recall includes the 2008 Corolla and Corolla Matrix sedans and the 2008-2010 Lexus SC430 convertible. Almost 200,000 of the cars are in the U.S.

Toyota previously recalled the same vehicles from earlier model years. It added more based on new information from Takata.

Takata airbags can inflate with too much force and spew shrapnel into the vehicle. Ten deaths worldwide have been blamed on the problem.

Toyota says it isn't aware of any injuries related to the latest recall, but there have been occupants injured in some of the 15.3 million vehicles it has recalled worldwide.

Toyota will notify owners and replace the airbags for free.
