Rancho Cucamonga, CA — XT Green has brought a new technology to recover carpet from landfills to a 126,620-square-foot manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County. The new advanced manufacturing operation will also be XT Green’s corporate headquarters. The firm plans to employ approximately 60 workers for new “green jobs” that include skilled advanced manufacturing positions plus office support.

XT Green shared that between three to four billion pounds of carpet is disposed in U.S. landfills annually along with the resources that make up the carpet. XT Green will divert carpet from landfills and recover these resources through their first-of-its-kind, newly-patented, ultra-clean technology that processes the carpet underwater.

The primary products produced by XT Green will be nylon and polypropylene pellets. Because these products replace raw material produced from fossil fuels, the XT Green facility will annually save 13.2 million gallons of oil and provide a greenhouse gas emission reduction benefit equivalent to planting 3.5 million trees. Calcium carbonate from the carpet backing will also be recovered and sold as a product.

XT Green plans to be operating by early 2018.

“Our region remains one of the best locations for manufacturing in Southern California,” said Reg Javier, deputy executive officer of workforce and economic development for San Bernardino County. “We provide the best cost structure for business and the necessary transportation and workforce resources for a firm such as XT Green. It’s exciting that they are looking to our County to launch this new important technology.”

According to XT Green the firm was attracted to Rancho Cucamonga because of the City’s leadership in becoming a more sustainable community and its commitment to attracting new, innovative, particularly “green” technology employers. “Rancho Cucamonga provided a welcoming environment for business that made a difference throughout the site selection process and further solidified our interest in locating there. They made sure we met with their necessary staff and had the workforce and building that met our growth needs,” said Gail Brice, vice president, XT Green.

“XT Green is indicative of the type of leading-edge ‘green’ firm that we want to attract to our City,” noted John Gillison, City Manager, Rancho Cucamonga. “Thanks to their innovative process, XT Green has been approved as an ‘Advanced Manufacturer’ by the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA). They are proving to be leaders in their industry and will do much to pave the way for other firms that are committed to green technology to locate to our community and region.”

In addition to hiring for their facility, XT Green’s operations will support additional new green jobs in the County that will be added by their suppliers who collect, sort and bale the used carpet processed by the facility. With its CAEATFA approval, the firm is excluded from state sales and use taxes associated with purchasing the equipment for its new facility. The firm is also a recipient of a $250,000 Infrastructure Grant from CalRecycle’s California Carpet Stewardship Program.
