SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — A township in northwest Ohio is suing the manufacturer of some of its fire engines, saying they violate Ohio lemon laws and are "worthless and/or substantially impaired."
WTOL-TV in Toledo reports (http://bit.ly/GSAMHv ) Sylvania Township also says KME Kovatch has failed to honor warranties. The suit filed Wednesday seeks $1.2 million in damages.
Three engines put into service in 2009 have had issues with sirens, warning lights, pump controllers and other equipment. Other problems have included electrical failures, pieces falling off and a blown diesel engine.
Sylvania Township Trustee Kevin Haddad says "the citizens want accountability for the money they're spending."
The township has been using other trucks in its fleet and receiving help from neighboring departments.
Lawyers from KME declined to comment to WTOL.
