MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) — A Krebs-based brewing company is planning to expand its beer production at a 52,000-square-foot facility that it recently acquired in McAlester.
The McAlester News-Capital reports that Krebs Brewing Company plans to relocate the bulk of its current beer production at Pete's Place Restaurant to Steven Taylor Industrial Park.
Company president Zach Prichard said the move will allow the brewery to make five to six times more beer than it currently does.
"Immediately there is three times the amount of space as we have now, with room to grow," Prichard said. "This will allow us to have more beer and better beer."
He said employment could double in the next three years with the expansion. The company's number of employees has already grown quickly. In 2013, four full-time employees worked at the facility. In three years, that number has increased to 30 employees.
"The best option for our business is to move into this existing building in McAlester," Prichard said. "I think it's a really good move to make and will benefit this community — McAlester, Krebs and the surrounding area."
The company is known for brewing Choc Beer Company and Prairie Artisan Ales products.
"The existing facility (at Pete's Place) will still be used," Prichard added. "Making that transition from Krebs to McAlester, while maintaining that Krebs heritage seemed like an easy move."
