INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Some of Indiana's political leaders have signed a letter asking for a meeting with executives of a corporation planning to shut down two factories in the state with some 2,100 workers and move production to Mexico.
Sens. Joe Donnelly and Dan Coats, Congressmen Andre Carson and Marlin Stutzman and Gov. Mike Pence signed the letter.
Carrier Corp. said it would shutter its Indianapolis plant employing 1,400 workers, with workers being laid off over three years starting in 2017.
United Technologies Electronic Controls also announced last week it would close its Huntington factory with 700 jobs by 2018.
Both units of Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp.
Pence says he and other Indiana politicians have decided to reach out and "work toward a solution to preserve these jobs in Indiana."
