Cedar Rapids Wind Turbine Plant Plans 76 Job Cuts

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Clipper Windpower has told Iowa Workforce Development that the company plans to eliminate the jobs of 76 people at the company's wind turbine plant in Cedar Rapids.

The company says the job eliminations will begin Monday and continue through Oct. 31.

Workforce Development says Clipper Windpower is providing the workers with at least 60 days of pay in lieu of providing 60 days of advance notification of the layoffs.

Clipper says it is refocusing its efforts on the company's service business. The Cedar Rapids reductions are part of a companywide reduction of 174 jobs, to 376 from 550.

Clipper headquarters are in Carpinteria, Calif.

Hartford, Conn.-based United Technologies Corp. sold Clipper Windpower this month to Platinum Equity LLC, a private equity firm. Terms were not disclosed.
