MM Blog: A Color Changing Smart Shower

A look at a shower head that helps you shower smarter.

The average person can use up to 20 gallons of water every time they take a shower. Of course, low-flow shower heads can help cut usage, but that doesn’t really help you keep track of how much water you’re using per shower.

But a new, smarter shower head called the Hydrao Smart Shower can. Debuted at CES earlier this month, this shower head has built-in LED lights that change color based on how much water you’ve used. The Bluetooth-connected gadget allows you to set intervals of five, seven or 10 gallons.

Once a certain level is reached, then the shower head will light up with the corresponding color, so the user will know what water threshold they’ve reached.

Another cool detail is that the Hydrao shower head is powered by a tiny turbine inside that uses the water flowing to generate electricity to power the LEDs and Bluetooth capability. No batteries required is definitely a plus.

SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Could this smarter, hydro-electric shower head improve wasteful water usage? Would it hold you more accountable?
