Element Electronics is one of many companies who have re-shored an assembly line from Asia back to Canton, Michigan. While most of the parts are still produced overseas, the TVs are assembled, tested and packaged in Canton by workers who otherwise might not have a job. Mike O'Shaughnessy, the company's CEO, argues that consumer demand is a primary driver for the recent success of locally-made TVs. By calculating the total costs of production, and by weighing duty and freight against labor, the company found a positive financial picture of producing in the U.S.A. And it seems to be working. The "Made in the U.S.A." packaging can't hurt, either.
