RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- General Electric Co. is planning to open an information technology center in suburban Richmond, creating about 200 jobs over the next few years.

Gov. Bob McDonnell on Wednesday said the company will open an Information Security Technology Center in Henrico County. The jobs will focus on cyber security, as well as network design, architecture, data management, and application development.

Fairfield, Conn.-based GE operates as a technology, media, and financial services company.

Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Jim Cheng said the jobs will pay on average two times more than the prevailing wage for the region. The company already has begun posting openings for the Virginia facility.

The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support recruitment and training activities.
