DANBURY, Conn. (AP) -- Industrial gas provider Praxair Inc. said Monday it will build a new air separation plant in South Korea to meet increased demand from a new production agreement with chip maker Samsung Electronics Co.
Under the memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies, Praxair will increase production capability to 3,300 tons per day for Samsung Electronics' advanced thin-film-transistor, liquid-crystal-display factory in Tangjeong, South Korea.
The new Praxair plant will have a capacity of 2,000 tons per day, and is scheduled to begin operating in the third quarter of 2009. Praxair did not specify how much the plant will cost.
Praxair began operation of another air separation plant at the same location last year.
