Broadcom Buying Global Locate

Broadcom sees GPS demand rising in the future of the wireless industry.

IRVINE, Calif. - Broadcom Corp announced Tuesday that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Global Locate, Inc. for approximately $146 million.

Broadcom produces semiconductors for wired and wireless communications. Global Locate provides global positioning systems (GPS) and assisted GPS (A-GPS) semiconductor products and software.

Broadcom sees GPS joining with Bluetooth and other wireless technologies in the future, increasing demand.

The transaction is expected to close during Broadcom’s third quarter, which ends Sept. 30.
