Case Study: Flexibility And Clarity With EYE

The Test Application and Assembly Center (TAZ) of the Center for Fuel Technology was opened September 2008 at the University of Duisburg-Essen, and is the first facility in which the production of fuel cells can be fully observed and altered according to needs or technological breakthroughs. The facility is researching how fuel cells could be manufactured in an entirely automated process.

The facility is researching how fuel cells could be manufactured in an entirely automated process. To date, the assembly stage has always been a manual task.

The Pilz Safety EYE was chosen for this application based on its flexibility. The virtual protection and warning zones are configured on a PC and can be easily adapted to new requirements, allowing for customization and testing. The manufacturing setup is highly flexible, consisting of two cells laying side-by-side, each equipped with a portal system and a robot. Both are then monitored by their own Safety EYE camera.
