The world’s largest solar park will soon be home to the world’s tallest solar tower after the Dubai project was recently given the green light.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority just approved a 700MW extension to the park which will give the facility a 5,000MW capacity by 2030. The extension also includes an 853-foot tall solar tower. Once completed, the park will form the world’s largest single-site concentrated solar power project.
This would just be the latest stage in a multi-stage project. The 13MW photovoltaic first phase went live in 2013 and the 200MW second phase was launched in March of this year.
Officials say approving this strategic project supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 that aims to increase the share of clean energy in power output to 7 percent by 2020, 25 percent by 2030 and 75 percent by 2050.
