WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Kansas chemical manufacturing company is due in court on charges stemming from the disposal of hazardous wastes down a saltwater disposal well in violation of federal safe water drinking laws.
JACAM Manufacturing has a change-of-plea and sentencing hearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Wichita. The company was charged last month with injecting volatile organic compounds down a well in Rice County without a permit.
The company makes and sells specialty chemicals used in the oil and gas production and industrial markets. Its manufacturing plant and headquarters are located in Sterling, Kansas and it has a nationwide network of more than 50 warehouses.
An affidavit for a search warrant last year recounted an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency that was sparked by information provided by former employees.
