The Allentown, Pennsylvania-based company said it had net income of 47 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 40 cents per share.
The supplier of specialty materials to the semiconductor industry posted revenue of $270.8 million in the period.
Versum Materials expects full-year revenue in the range of $990 million to $1.05 billion.
Versum Materials shares have climbed 2 percent since the beginning of the year.
