Pepperl+Fuchs (Twinsburg, Ohio) recently announced that it is expanding its portfolio of camera-based linear positioning systems. The first PXV read heads in the compact F213 design now feature either an SSI or an IO-Link interface. With continuous quality monitoring, they ensure high system availability.

In addition, four new read heads in the F200 design are now available for the PXV and PCV Data Matrix positioning systems. Each system is available with two interface options: PROFINET, as before, and EtherCAT for the first time. These are the first models of a new generation, with revised hardware and software features that enable precise absolute positioning in real time while adding diagnostic options. The new read heads also comply with the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

The PXV variants in the new F213 design feature:

  • A narrow housing measuring just 70 mm × 70 mm × 35 mm with a cable outlet.
  • Applicable in the logistics, automotive and electronics industries.
In addition to two SSI devices, a model with an IO-Link interface is also available.
  • It can be used in Industry 4.0 environments, such as with OPC UA or MQTT IO-Link masters.
  • The new IO-Link read head enables simple configuration and quick commissioning, according to the company.
  • Diagnostic data is available for predictive maintenance purposes.
  • Storage of device parameters enables fast device replacement.
  • Both the SSI and IO-Link read heads also output quality values, which enables early detection of contamination or damage.

The new PXV and PCV read heads in the F200 design with PROFINET and EtherCAT interfaces feature:

  • A higher evaluation frequency of 100 Hz, up from the previous 40 Hz.
  • Increased passage speed from 8 m/s to up to 12.5 m/s.
  • Improved real-time positioning, even in applications involving high-speed motion sequences.
  • A larger field of view delivers consistent reading results and greater installation flexibility.
  • Increased tolerance range for the z-distance (PCV) to compensate for system variations, such as curved paths, and to allow more flexible mounting.

Additional benefits of the PXV and PCV positioning systems include:

  • A reliable absolute positioning system featuring a unique combination of a 2-D camera and a Data Matrix code tape for non-contact positioning over distances of up to 100,000 m.
  • Immunity to contamination or damage to the code tape thanks to multiple code redundancies.
  • Commissioning via RS-485, SSI, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIsafe, EtherCAT or IO-Link.

Pepperl+Fuchs is gradually transitioning its entire PXV and PCV portfolio to the new generation of hardware and software, ensuring that additional variants can also benefit from the improved features in the future.
