SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — The Tyson family and Tyson Family Foods Inc. have announced a $15 million donation for construction of the new Arkansas Children's Hospital campus in northwestern Arkansas.

The donation was announced Tuesday by Tyson Chairman John Tyson; board member Barbara Tyson; and Tyson CEO Donnie Smith.

The money is to be used to construct what will be known as the Tyson Family Tower at Arkansas Children's Northwest in Springdale. The tower will include more than 233-thousand-square-feet for inpatient beds, emergency care, diagnostic services and clinical space.

Officials say $45.5 million has now been pledged toward the estimated $427.7 million cost of the new hospital, which is scheduled to open in January 2018.
