DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler says its U.S. sales rose just 1 percent last month, a sign that auto sales may be reaching a peak.
The Italian-American automaker says it sold just over 204,000 cars, trucks and SUVs, enough to report its best May in 11 years.
The all-SUV Jeep brand led the way with sales up 14 percent. But Chrysler brand sales fell 19 percent as car sales faltered, and the Dodge brand dropped 5 percent. Ram pickup sales fell 3 percent.
May is typically among the strongest sales months of the year. But car shopping site Kelley Blue Book predicted overall sales would fall 6 percent from a year ago.
The declines could be a sign that U.S. auto sales are reaching a plateau after six straight years of growth.
