SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A Toyota Motor Corp. assembly plant in San Antonio has suspended production due to storm damage from a system that dumped up to 4 inches of rain.
Toyota spokesman Mario Lozoya (loh-ZOY'-uh) says the plant halted production Wednesday following roof and other damage. He cited safety concerns and had no timetable for resuming production.
A section of the roof appeared to cave in. The plant had random power outages due to water leaks. Lozoya says nobody was hurt.
Parts of South Texas were hit with hail the size of tennis balls in storms that rolled through Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Storms are expected to continue through Friday in parts of the region.
The plant, which makes Tundra and Tacoma pickup trucks, canceled two shifts, affecting about 3,200 workers.
