DURANT, Okla. (AP) — Officials are celebrating the groundbreaking for a new plant that's expected to create 300 jobs in the Durant area.
State, federal and local officials gathered in Durant on Friday to mark the start of construction for the Commercial Metals Company micro mill. The facility uses micro mill technology that melts, casts and rolls steel from a single uninterrupted strand.
Company officials say that method produces higher yields and uses less energy than the traditional mini-mill process.
The new plant is expected to open in the fall of 2017.
