BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Federal regulators have proposed $124,000 in penalties for a Louisiana food manufacturing company accused of exposing workers to hazardous chemicals and other dangerous conditions.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Friday that it cited Diversified Foods and Seasonings LLC for 26 alleged safety violations, all but one of which it labelled as "serious."
OSHA says it discovered the alleged violations after an inspection of the company's Madisonville facility, where an evacuation had sent workers to the hospital as a precaution on Oct. 16, 2015.
OSHA also accused the company of exposing workers to electrical hazards and failing to properly protect them from falls.
The company has about 270 employees, including 60 workers in Madisonville. It has 15 business days to contest the citations and penalties.
