WASHINGTON (AP) — A schism has emerged among family members of victims and survivors of December's shootings in San Bernardino, California, with at least a couple supporting Apple Inc. in its battle against a federal court order to help the FBI hack into a shooter's locked iPhone.
Salihin Kondoker, whose wife, Anies, was shot three times during the attack that killed 14 people, sent Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym a letter Monday expressing support for Apple's position in a case pitting digital privacy rights against national security concerns.
Kondoker said he was writing to the court because he believes "privacy is important and Apple should stay firm in their decision."
A Los Angeles attorney, however, is planning to file a brief representing some family and survivors supportive of the government's position.
