EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company have reached an agreement in an effort to reduce air pollution.
The federal agency announced Wednesday that the company has agreed to install pollution control equipment at its F.B. Culley and A.B. Brown coal-fired electric generating plants near Evansville that will improve air quality and protect the health of southern Indiana residents. The equipment is expected to reduce sulfuric acid emissions from both power plants by approximately 1,400 tons each year.
Southern Indiana Gas and Electric Company also plans to spend about $30 million on other equipment upgrades to reduce sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions from the F.B. Culley plant.
The agreement will be subject to court approval after a public notice and comment period.
