WATERFORD, Conn. (AP) — A spokesman for Dominion Resources Inc.'s nuclear power plant in Connecticut says the unit that was shut down last week because of a malfunction is generating electricity again.
Millstone Power Station spokesman Ken Holt says Unit 3 was reconnected to the grid on Wednesday and was expected to reach full power within about a day.
Unit 3 is one of two operating units at the Waterford plant. It shut down Friday when a malfunction caused a drop in the level of water used to cool the reactor core.
Holt said Thursday that a power distribution panel has been reconfigured and re-energized.
Millstone provides half of Connecticut's power. The automatic shutdown was the first at Millstone since last summer, when its other operating unit went offline due to unusually warm water in Long Island Sound.
