Americans send more than 30 million tons of food to the landfill every year, where it rots and seeps methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere. Heartland Biogas in LaSalle, Colorado, is using a method called anaerobic digestion to capture the methane from the food we waste and turn it into a renewable energy source.
