The maker of Twinkies could add a popular Canadian snack cake to its holdings, according to a report by Reuters.

People familiar with the matter indicated that Hosted Brands LLC is in talks, along with other potential buyers, to acquire Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp.

Give and Go makes the Two-Bite brand of brownies and other baked desserts, as well as Kimberly's Bakeshoppe cupcakes and numerous private-label offerings in North America and other markets.

The company is owned by the private equity arm of Ontario's public employee pension fund, which reportedly hopes to fetch up to $800 million through the deal.

Although Kansas City-based Hostess would appear to be a natural fit for the bakery company, Reuters reported that its offer might not win out in the sale process.

The private equity firms that own Hostess eventually hope to take the company public following its emergence from a high profile bankruptcy proceeding in 2013.
