Daimler Trucks Plans New Warehouse, 43 New Jobs In Iowa

The Iowa Economic Development Authority on Friday approved tax incentives worth $662,100 for Daimler Trucks North America to lease a new 245,000-square-foot warehouse.

Daimler's North American heavy-duty truck division plans to establish a new parts distribution center in Iowa, the state's economic development agency announced last week.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority on Friday approved tax incentives worth $662,100 for Daimler Trucks North America to lease a new 245,000-square-foot warehouse in Grimes, The Des Moines Register reported.

The incentives must be matched by the city of Grimes, which is also reportedly considering a tax increment financing rebate and tax abatement worth more than $3.1 million.

Daimler Trucks North America is headquartered in Portland, Ore., and includes the Freightliner, Western Star and Thomas Built Buses brands. The $6.4 million project is expected to create 43 jobs in suburban Des Moines.

The IEDA also approved $690,100 in incentives for the expansion of Graphic Packaging's facility in Newton and $57,300 — along with loans worth $90,000 — for Canadian additive manufacturing firm Agile.

The agency said the projects will amount to more than $28 million in capital investments across Iowa.
