(Manufacturing.net) — Walldorf, Germany-based SAP AG today announced its acquisition of hybris, a provider of e-commerce technology. SAP says the acquisition will allow them to deliver more e-commerce platforms, with the choice of on-premise or cloud deployments, to enterprises around the world. The company also says the e-ecommerce technology marked has been estimated at $37 billion, and is in a rapidly-changing period, with enterprises demanding more ability to access data from multiple locations or devices, plus integration with big data, cloud and social technologies. The two companies did not disclose financial details of the plan as of press time.
hybris was founded in 1997 and currently stations its headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, and since provided an “omni-channel” e-commerce platform that incorporates solutions for the web, mobile, call center and storage. In addition, its services help businesses sell more goods through various channels and devices. The company’s majority investor is HGGC, a private investment firm based in Palo Alto, California.
Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe, co-CEOs, SAP AG, said in a statement: “hybris puts SAP on the leading edge of the consumer economy. With hybris, SAP has made a decisive move to raise the stakes in customer relationship management and define the next generation customer experience.”
SAP has announced plans to incorporate hybris’ commerce platform with its own in-memory platform SAP HANA analytics and cloud applications, along with the SAP Jam social software platform. The integration will also include new features to the SAP 360 Customer platform, which includes a customer resource management (CRM) application, and will help businesses better engage customers. Upon completion of the transaction, hybris will continue to operate as an independent business unit and will retain its existing management team.
