CLEVELAND (AP) -- A judge set bond at $3 million on Monday for a man accused of gunning down two people at an Ohio manufacturing plant.
Wearing handcuffs and assisted by a translator, Pedro Rodriguez, 50, appeared in Cleveland Municipal Court on two counts of aggravated murder in Friday's shooting at ParkOhio Products Inc. in Cleveland.
Rodriguez was represented by a public defender and entered no plea. Judge Emanuella Groves set a preliminary hearing for Nov. 2.
Rodriquez looked at the floor as the translator whispered in his ear during a brief initial court appearance to hear the charges and have bond set.
Police said Rodriguez killed plant worker Graciela Morales, 49, outside, then used her employee ID card to get inside the building and fatally shoot another worker, 49-year-old Eduardo Pupo. A relative of Morales told The Plain Dealer that Pupo was a family friend who hadn't been romantically involved with Morales.
Rodriguez fled the scene in a car and was hit by a stun gun while police apprehended him later that afternoon.
Authorities said Morales had filed a stalking report against Rodriguez in July but decided not to press charges.
Morales' niece, Cassandra Morales, has said her aunt broke off a relationship with Rodriguez two years ago and he had attacked her once before, sending her to the hospital.
