With the Perdue Foods Chicken Nugget recall covered separately earlier in the week, this edition of the Recall Roundup takes a look at the other recalls involving the food industry that have been in the news over the last several days.

In a news release published to the FDA website on March 4, Progressive Gourmet Inc. β€” the company that manufactures breakfast sandwiches for Starbucks Coffee Co. β€” announced it was recalling 6-ounce packages of sausage, egg and cheddar cheese on English muffin breakfast sandwiches due to possible listeria contamination.

According to the FDA news release:

The product comes in a 6 ounce, clear plastic labeled package marked with Best Before: 07-AUG-2016 on the top. Note, no other production runs of this product are impacted by this recall.

These potentially impacted sandwiches were possibly sold to consumers by select Starbucks stores in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma Starbucks Stores on 3/3/16 and 3/4/16. The sandwiches may be heated at the store level for immediate consumption.

This recall is limited to impacted 250 stores in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma only. (The recalled sandwiches were distributed to warehouses in Maryland, North Carolina, Texas and Louisiana).

As soon as Starbucks was informed of this potential issue, the impacted product was removed from the 250 stores that potentially received it. The scope of this issue is limited to these stores.

A news release published to the FDA website on March 7 announced that Specialty Commodities, Inc. was recalling one lot of dry roasted almonds that may contain an undeclared allergen in the form of cashews.

According to the FDA news release:

The recalled dry roasted almonds were distributed to six customers in Arizona, California and Colorado. They were shipped in 25 lb. cartons, marked with lot #1050188-1-16007 on the side of the cardboard cartons. The cartons were distributed to other food production companies for further processing and packagingβ€”they are not distributed directly to consumers for sale in retail outlets. The recalled dry roasted almonds were distributed between January 26, 2016 and February 16, 2016. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

According to a FDA news release from March 5, Seattle-based Gretchen's Shoebox Express announced it was recalling Cheese and Fruit Bistro Boxes due to the potential for the product to contain undeclared allergens in the form of cashews.

The FDA news release states:

The Cheese & Fruit Bistro Boxes involved were distributed to Starbucks retail locations in Washington State. No other products or β€œEnjoy By” dates are impacted by this recall. Starbucks removed the impacted product from stores as soon as it became aware of the issue.

The recall is being conducted because an ingredient supplier issued a recall for a specific lot of almonds used to construct the bistro boxes. The almonds may contain cashews. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Materne North America Corp. announced on March 4 that potential adulteration from food product residue was the cause of a recall involving GoGo squeeZ applesauce pouches, according to a news release published to the FDA website.

According to the FDA news release:

The recalled applesauce pouches have a Best Before Date of 12/4/15-3/4/17 and a 5 digit production code beginning β€œUS” followed by 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 or 08, which consumers can identify on the back of the pouch or on the bottom of the box, and β€œProduct of USA” displayed under the Nutrition Facts Panel on the box. Any products labeled as organic are not impacted by the recall.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue. The food product residue was noted during a routine inspection by the Michigan State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), which revealed its presence in two product pumps at the Traverse City, Michigan production facility. It is possible the food product residue may have been incorporated into finished product

Another addition to the Maytag Dairy Farms blue cheese recall was announced March 4 when a news release published to the FDA website stated that Maytag Blue Cheese has now been voluntarily recalled from 17 Schnuck Markets over listeria concerns.

According to the FDA news release:
