Starbucks is pulling a seasonal sandwich sold in more than 1,300 stores in the western U.S. over concerns about possible E. coli contamination.

The celery in those locations' holiday turkey paninis came from a California farm that also supplied Costco with ingredients for the rotisserie chicken salad now blamed for an outbreak of the bacteria.

Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific recalled a range of celery products "out of an abundance of caution" last week after a celery and onion mix tested positive for E. coli.

The E. coli 157 strain is considered more dangerous than a previous outbreak that resulted in the closure of dozens of Chipotle restaurants.

Costco's chicken salad was linked to 19 people sickened by the bacteria. No deaths were attributed to the outbreak, but two people reportedly developed kidney failure.

Starbucks said that no illnesses were reported because of the holiday panini.

Other stores affected by the Taylor Farms Pacific recall included Walmart, Target and Safeway.
