Poultry producer Pilgrim’s plans to build a $400 million plant in Northwest Georgia, state and company officials announced Thursday.

The new facility in LaFayette, Georgia, will produce the company's prepared foods — primarily fully cooked chicken products. Construction on the multi-phase project will begin this fall; the first phase is expected to be completed in 2027. Hiring is also slated to begin in 2027; the company anticipates that the facility will house more than 630 workers.

“This significant investment will allow further growth of our prepared foods business by expanding brands like Just Bare, Pilgrim’s and Gold Kist, and supporting increasing demand in retail and foodservice channels,” Pilgrim’s CEO Fabio Sandri said in a statement.

Pilgrim’s operates seven production facilities in Georgia and says it supports some 7,500 jobs in the state.
