We've written before about tracking domestic herd animals using the Internet of Things. Recently, researchers at Cambridge Industrial Design were commissioned by True North Technologies to create high-tech cow trackers, which can track the bovines' behavior and location.

The trackers are shaped like cow bells, hung around the animal's necks as usual. Inside, though, they're much more sophisticated. Along with tracking, the devices can encourage the cows to move to different pastures using geofencing. Tests of animal data analysis are currently going on throughout Europe, with the project, run by Irish federal agricultural research agency Teagasc, Institute d'Laval in France and Agroscope in Switzerland, expected to be finished in June 2016.

Designers beef up farming tech with wearables for cows

Design firm Cambridge Industrial Design herd that dairy farmers might want to track their cows' moo-vements, so they went ahead and developed some udderly clever smart collars to help keep an eye on the beasts.
