The large quantity of Mexican sugar flowing over the U.S. border may soon diminish to a trickle after the Mexican soft drink industry announced plans to buy more domestic sugar. This is good news for U.S. sugar producers who were seeing low prices after a production surge this year. American Crystal Sugar Co. CEO David Berg told employees,

"All things considered there was room for Mexican sugar, until this year, when their production just popped. We were in balance before. We're not in balance now. We're plainly in surplus."
