Otis Spunkmeyer Closes Pennsylvania Plant

Otis Spunkmeyer, known for their cookies, muffins and other baked goods, closed their Export, Penn., plant on Tuesday. The work will be moved to four other U.S. bakeries that are controlled by Aryzta AG, Spunkmeyer's Swiss parent company since 2006.

EXPORT, Pa. (AP) — Otis Spunkmeyer has shut down a western Pennsylvania production plant, idling 130 workers.

Workers first told WTAE-TV that the plant in Export closed on Tuesday. The station says 130 people worked there.

Company spokeswoman Kathy Lenkov has since confirmed the move saying work that had been done in the Westmoreland County plant will now be moved to four other U.S. bakeries controlled by parent company, Aryzta AG.

The Swiss company bought the bakeries in 2006.

Otis Spunkmeyer makes cookies, muffins and other baked goods.

Lenkov says the Pennsylvania workers are getting severance packages and help finding other jobs.
