NC Hosts Food Manufacturers for Forum

Food manufacturers, retailers and farmers will be among the 400 people gathering in Raleigh for a forum on proposed federal rules. The N.C. Agriculture Department says the ninth annual Commissioner's Food Safety Forum is scheduled for Tuesday at the Exposition Center at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Food manufacturers, retailers and farmers will be among the 400 people gathering in Raleigh for a forum on proposed federal rules.

The N.C. Agriculture Department says the ninth annual Commissioner's Food Safety Forum is scheduled for Tuesday at the Exposition Center at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

Among the speakers is Michael Taylor, deputy commissioner for food and veterinary medicine for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. He will be among those discussion the proposed food safety rules, as well as the potential impact of the rules and what's being done in regard to food safety in the various sectors.

Other speakers will represent Publix Super Markets, Jackson Farming Co. and N.C. State University. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler is also slated to speak.
